Jean-Paul Diotte 6, rue des Moulins 89800 Chablis-FRANCE Tél 1 (33) 03 86 42 85 56 Born in a village in Burgundy in 1953, one of my first childhood memories was of a perception of the microcosm of earth and stones. My ensuing discovery of barely discernible rupestrian forms proved the inspiration for my first, faltering steps towards humanity. At the age of 17, three years spent drawing and painting opened my eyes to new perspectives on lines, forms, materials and colours. The discovery, for myself, of anamorphosis was a progression from this very passion for perspectives. By the age of 20, following research into the notion of time and space, I concluded that endeavouring to represent macroscopic elements pictorially, only served to diminish such forms onto a one-dimensional plane. To my mind the universe encompassed everything and no artistic representation could ever even aspire to encapsulate the dimensions of time and space. This nihilistic outlook brought an end to my sculpting for a number of years. Yet, in 1993, after 20 years of material existence, my passion for art returned to the forefront of my life and drove me to return to Burgundy and convert a studio / workshop. Differing paths have brought me to the works I produce today, a point in time when contemporary art has finally breathed life into an archaic language over 600 million years old.
